Ahead of the president’s trip to El Paso, Texas, President Donald Trump and former Democratic Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke swapped insults on Twitter.
During the weekend, the city was shaken when a gunman shot a local Walmart, killing 22 people and wounding 26. O’Rourke, a Democratic presidential contestant for 2020, has constantly blamed the rhetoric of the president for the tragedy, and Trump shot back on Wednesday evening, stating that O’Rourke should “respect the victims …& be quiet!”

O’Rourke answered by blaming Trump once again for the killing.
“22 people in my hometown are dead after an act of terror inspired by your racism,” O’Rourke said. “El Paso will not be quiet and neither will I.”
O’Rourke has constantly charged Trump as a racist and white supremacist, stating that his words influenced the supposed shooter’s anti-immigrant manifesto.
Trump has constantly criticized white supremacy and, when addressing the nation, did so again on Monday.
“The shooter in El Paso posted a manifesto online consumed by racist hate. In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry, and white supremacy,” Trump said. “These sinister ideologies must be defeated. Hate has no place in America. Hatred warps the mind, ravages the heart and devours the soul.”
